Kalanchoe Diagremontiana- Mother of Thousands
Kalanchoe Diagremontiana- Mother of Thousands
The Kalanchoe Daigremontiana is also called the Mother of Thousands or Devil's Backbone. Is native to Madagascar. This is a perennial succulent and abides by most succulent rules. This succulent is apart of the Crassulaceae family. The mother of thousands has the ability to flower during the late winter/early spring. This plant, like most tropical plants, is toxic to small children and animals.
Watering: Since the mother of thousands is a succulent you want to water the plant when the media is completely dry, and the leaves begin to wrinkle. The mother of thousands, like other succulents store water in their leaves and don't always need to be watered on a consistent schedule. If you like to go by days, every 14-21 days is sufficient. If your plant is outside in the full sun, a more frequent watering schedule will be needed.
Temperature: The Kalanchoe Daigremontiana is accustomed to temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The plant does have a wintering period where the temperatures get between 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit. If your plant is left at these freezing temperatures for extended periods of time, your plant may perish.
Sunlight: Give the plant full sun to partial sun. The more sun you give the plant, the more it thrives.
Plant Info: These plants will be coming in a clear nursery humidity dome pot. The potting media is a mix of succulent soil, leca, pumice, perlite, horticultural charcoal and orchid bark. Due to the invasive nature of the plant shipping is prohibited in Texas, certain parts of California, and Florida. Please wait at least two weeks before feeding your plant babies after you receive them.
Each humidity container contains 4-5 starter plants. It is suggested to leave your plant in the humidity dome until each leaf of each plant has defined "grooves". Each plant can then be moved to their own 2" planters. Humidity will no longer be needed at that stage. Each plant will also produce it's own babies so repotting after a certain size is suggested.
