Canistropsis Billbergioides- Burgundy 1

This plant is a Bromeliad. I took this pup from the mother in the second week of February.

Watering: This plant is considered a succulent and won't need to be watered but once every 1.5- 2 weeks, or wait until the soil is completely dry. When watering a mature Bromeliad, place water into it's "cup" where the leaves meet at the base of the plant. Pups can deal with media watering. Bromeliads are prone to root rot so be sure to utilize a well draining cactus mix when repotting.

Environment: This plant thrives in temperatures between 60-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity should be kept between 55-70%. Misting will help temporarily increase humidity for a few minutes, but having a humidifier within 1-2 feet is recommended. This plant loves indirect bright light. Bright indirect light is when the plant can see the sky without the suns rays directly touching the foliage. (The mother plant is sitting in the sill of an East facing window.) 

Growth: Bromeliads as a houseplant can reach 2-3 feet tall. These plants are very slow growing. Once the central plant begins to give pups, it will brown and die off. It takes approximately 2-3 years for a pup to reach maturity.
