While their reputation suggests they're nearly indestructible, succulents actually require a pretty specific set of conditions to thrive. Let’s break down the truth about their care so you can keep your succulents happy, healthy, and totally Instagrammable. 

🌞 LIGHTING: Succulents Are Sun Worshippers (Mostly)

Succulents come from sunny, arid environments, so they crave bright, light—at least 6 hours a day.

South or east facing windows are usually best. If your succulent starts getting leggy (aka stretched out like it's reaching for the sun), it’s a cry for help—not enough light! 

Fun Fact: Some succulents, like Echeveria, will actually lose their vibrant colors if they don’t get enough light. Sun brings out their sass!

Grow Light Hack: If you live somewhere with long winters or low light, invest in a full-spectrum grow light. It’s like giving your succulent a tropical vacation year-round.

💧 WATERING: Less is More

This is where most people mess up. Succulents do not like wet feet. In fact, overwatering is the #1 way to kill a succulent.

How to Water Succulents:

• Wait until the soil is bone dry. Not “kinda dry”—DRY dry.
• Use the “soak and dry” method: water deeply, then leave it alone until the soil is completely dry again.
• Never mist succulents. They’re not into spa treatments—they're desert plants!

If you’re a plant newbie, consider starting with a hardy pothos or monstera before diving into the world of succulents.
